SONAH Group is an electrical and solar wholesaler for the trade, based in Cape Town and active across Africa.
We work for the people who do the work: electricians, solar contractors, the firms running commercial and industrial jobs. We do not make the products and we do not run a marketplace. We are the house in the middle: we carry the brands the trade asks for, we know what fits, and we stand behind what we sell. The reliable companion of the professional.
120 years of trading into Africa. One name on the door.
Before there was a portal, there was a truck. On the back of it, a drum of cable and a pallet of inverters, and in the cab a proforma written by hand, because the customer was two borders away and the bank wanted it before the truck moved.
The founding families of SONAH Group have been trading into Africa for more than 120 years. Electrical came when the wires did, solar when the roofs asked for it. A name is the only thing that travels well across a border. It has to be good in a town where nobody has met you, on a day when the part is late and the crew is standing. Theirs has been, for longer than anyone now at the counter has been alive. That is the root.
Everything above the ground came later, and it came in the order roots come: the brands the trade asks for, then stock you can see before you drive, then a person who picks up. SONAH Group brings those efforts under one roof. The people, the accounts and the reputation came with it.
We are not the biggest house on the continent. We are the one that answers. Give us a job that is late, a drawing that does not add up, or a site that is a long way from anywhere, and you will find out what the roots are for.
How we are set up
Head office in Cape Town is the foothold into the continent. From there the Group serves the trade through a distribution network across Africa, with stock held in-country so an order ships from the point nearest the job.
Behind the portal is a small team that knows the line. Ask for a trade account on WhatsApp or by email and a person replies, not a form.
More than a shelf
We sell to the trade only, never to the public. Around the products sits the help a job actually needs: system sizing and BOM checks, compatibility and warranty questions answered before you buy, and project support from residential through to C&I and containerised systems. If you are not sure what fits, send the drawing. That is what we are here for.
